Association of the Virus of Lymphocytic Choriomeningitis with Erythrocytes of Infected Animals.
نویسنده
چکیده
The virus of lymphocytic choriomeningitis is found in organs and body fluids of infected man and animals [Rivers and Scott (1935, 1936), Armstrong, Wooley and Onstott (1936), Traub (1935, 1936a, c), Smadel and Wall (1941, 1942), Findlay and Stern (1936) and Kreis (1937)]. Traub (1936b) reported that the cellular sediment of leucocytes and erythrocytes from the blood of one out of four mice tested contained the virus. In attempts to determine whether the mechanism of transfer of the virus through the blood bears any relation to the pathogenesis of the disease the following observations were made: Erythrocytes from heparinized blood of infected mice and guinea pigs were separated from the silvery layer of leucocytes, washed 6-7 times in Locke solution

An Epidemic in a Mouse Colony Due to the Virus of Acute Lymphocytic Choriomeningitis
A filtrable virus, identical with that which causes acute lymphocytic choriomeningitis, has been found to cause a disease in white mice. Naturally infected mice usually show no symptoms, but such animals inoculated intracerebrally with sterile bouillon or other materials develop characteristic symptoms. The same symptoms are produced by intracerebral injection of the virus into mice from a dise...
متن کاملLymphocytic choriomeningitis virus infection in fetal, newborn, and young adult Syrian hamsters (Mesocricetus auratus).
The pathogenesis of lymphocytic choriomeningitis virus infection in fetal, newborn, and young adult hamsters was studied. Infected newborn hamsters initially developed a persistent viremia and viruria with titers often in excess of 10(4.0) mean infectious doses/0.03 ml of blood or urine. After week 12 two different patterns of infection became evident. Approximately one-half of the hamsters eve...
متن کاملEffect of antilymphocyte serium on tacaribe virus infection in infant mice.
Tacaribe virus, a member of the arenovirus group, was demonstrated to have similarities in pathogenesis to the prototype virus of this group, lymphocytic choriomeningitis (LCM) virus. Treatment with antilymphocyte serum (ALS) doubled the survival time of mice neonatally infected with a lethal dose of Tacaribe virus. Twenty-one per cent of ALS-treated infected animals survived more than 30 days....
متن کاملLymphocytic Choriomeningitis in the Syrian Hamster
The virus of lymphocytic choriomeningitis produces an intense systemic infection in Syrian hamsters with few if any clinical and pathological signs of disease. Specific soluble antigen is demonstrable in the spleen of infected animals until about the 14th day when antisoluble substance antibodies make their appearance. Circulating virus disappears after the 4th week and neutralizing antibodies ...
متن کاملLymphocytic Choriomeningitis
Lymphocytic choriomeningitis virus (LCMV) is a pathogen, normally carried in rodents, which can cause aseptic meningitis and other conditions in humans. Most people experience a relatively mild illness and fatal infections are rare; however, pregnant women may give birth to congenitally infected infants with severe defects of the brain and eye. In a few instances, this virus has been transmitte...
